Everytime I hear people yap about how restrictive and all Utah is I have to point people to Idaho. in fact the Twin Falls area. Now you may ask why? Let me tell you a bit of flat land go toew history.
When I got LexiBelle brand new, with about 2,000 miles on her, I name my little toew company in Hazzard, Highway Hooker Towing. Ya’ll know the definition and origination of the name so I’ll dispense with that but here’s the thing. Even though many including this cat up near MHI copied the name and I could sue, but why? Any mile not one cop department here wanted to put that on their rotation list , list. It was a feeling that came from deep rooted , mentalities that are entrenched in Mormon belief as being, lets not go there it might offend somebody. Although the church itself found the name somewhat amusing the name stuck in peoples minds and without a bunch of mainstream advertising. But it was taboo. So I had to wrestle with other brand names. Ultimately in both Idaho Falls Idaho and Lewiston Idaho , Highway Hooker Toewing now reins supreme, and doing well we won the battle, but not the war. However , not one small word was said at the Utah Department of Public Safety nor the Department of Commerce in Salt Lake City on the name they just stamped it and approved it. So from Wendover to Tooele, and in Echo canyon Highway Hooker Toewing IS US going toewing. Utah flat did not care, the Mormon church DID NOT CARE, in fact one of my supervisors at Deseret Transportation praised the name and helped me come up with the type set and all for LexiBelle to display the name. So your question now becomes, why didn’t and why don’t we run that now here in Idaho? I collided with all things Hazzard County in 1981 and ya’ll know the rest of that story.
Now then fast forward into 1994 TNN( now Spike TV) starts running the Dukes after years on a local station buy syndication run, so the Knytes inquire about running ads for membership, and the good old Hazzard County Garage(US) ruining ads as well. This was the beginning of the ultimate toew smooch. That smooch and Daisy was too much PDA for local TV. So we were branded. The same claim, might offend someone that Daisy showed too much leg, and getting past the connection of a toe smooch and our end tag of we love tows,(toews) was a bit much. Just about every TV station in Idaho had a problem with that, but not Utah, there isn’t one TV station that refused to run the ad. In fact they thought it was clever. And for $900.00 for the first production run, and $1,200.00 a month in ad time, we ran that for two years and generated lots of toew calls from it. Now this brings us to us here in the air wing of the Knytes, us in the AyreWolvez, and specifically me here in AyreWolf Aviation. The idea of having hot calendar girl pin ups on TV to give some eye candy pop to ads for the air wing and my company, in Idaho again, no can’t do that, but Utah, said hell yes. Long before Danica Patrick turned pro racer, one account rep for Comcast had booked her for the ad. But Idaho, said no, that might seem a bit too much. Of course we bottom this out, when the Knytes wanted to bolster itself in the public eye and come out as an MC, and we opened the club owned shop Hazzard County Choppers, we wanted to run ads on Son’s of Anarchy. Again , a gal in tight leather posing with a hot bike was seen by Cable-One Advertising of Eastern Idaho as taboo. Comcast and Utah had no problem with it. First the FCC regulations of after 9:00PM for racy material standards was met, since Son’s runs at 11:00 PM, Second HD was running on Son’s and we are the custom Harley retrofitters and crafters of the region. Yet Idaho says no, Utah says no problem. So the end here is this; Next time I hear someone here bitching or yapping about it might make the CHURCH uncomfortable, or that you can’t do THAT in Utah, I’m going to say its not the Church, nor Utah, Utah says its fine, its your stuck up mindset that says no. Bottom line, the best cure? Lets move the Utah Tabernacle to say Twin Falls here, along with every damn Mormon bigot here to Idaho, and leave Utah alone.
TTYL aviators, gotta head to church.
